International Applicants
Application and Fee
All international applicants must submit an online application at apply.unomaha.edu.
A $45.00 (U.S. dollars) application fee is required. Applications will not be processed without payment. The fee is nonrefundable, regardless of admission status.
The application fee is valid for one year. Applicants who do not enroll within one year must reapply and submit a new fee.
Previous UNO students and students who attended another University of Nebraska campus (UNK, UNL, UNO, or UNMC) are not required to pay the application fee again.

Required Documentation
International applicants must submit the documentation outlined below in order to be considered for admission.
Academic Records
Applicants must submit transcripts from every high school, college, or university attended.
If academic records are not issued in English, a certified English translation must be included.
Applicants seeking transfer credit from a foreign college or university must submit a course-by-course credential evaluation from a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
Final official transcripts from all institutions must be submitted within the first eight weeks of enrollment.
Passport Copy
Applicants must submit a clear copy of the passport information page.
Proof of English Proficiency
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:

Completion of four years of standard English coursework at an accredited U.S. high school

ACT English subscore of 20 or higher, or the SAT equivalent
-
Completion of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
-
Completion of English Composition I or English Composition II with a grade of C or better from a regionally accredited U.S. institution
-
Citizenship from a country listed on UNO’s English Proficiency Waiver List
-
An official Medium of Instruction letter confirming that the applicant’s entire academic program was taught in English
- Official test scores from an approved English proficiency examination
Official test scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.

Financial Documentation (F-1 and J-1 Visa Applicants)
Applicants who require an F-1 or J-1 student visa must provide proof of financial support before immigration documents can be issued.
Required Financial Documents
Applicants must submit the following:

Official documentation of available liquid funds, such as bank statements or other financial certifications showing sufficient funding

A completed UNO Financial Affidavit signed by the student and sponsor, if applicable
Financial documentation must be less than six months old at the time of submission.
Submission Process
Financial documentation must be submitted through the designated iGlobal e-form after admission. Financial documents submitted by email or mail will not be accepted.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha cannot issue Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 until all required financial documentation has been received and approved.
Conditional Admission
Applicants who do not meet the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s English language proficiency requirements may be eligible for conditional admission through UNO’s Intensive English Program (IEP).
Conditional admission allows students to begin English language study in the IEP before full undergraduate enrollment.
Requirements for Full Admission
Students admitted conditionally must successfully complete the required IEP coursework and achieve the qualifying score established by the program before transitioning to full undergraduate admission.
Students are not eligible for degree-seeking status until the English proficiency requirement has been met.
Students admitted in F-1 status must request an updated Form I-20 after completing the IEP and meeting the English proficiency requirement. The Form I-20 will be updated to reflect degree-seeking status once full undergraduate admission is confirmed.
Non-Degree Seeking Students
International students in F-1 or J-1 status may apply to enroll at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as non-degree-seeking students under the conditions outlined below.
Eligibility
International non-degree applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

Hold F-1 or J-1 status at another U.S. institution and provide written permission from their current institution allowing part-time enrollment at UNO while maintaining their immigration status at the home institution

Participate in an approved international exchange program between UNO and their home institution
-
Provide a formal recommendation from their home institution or employer supporting enrollment at UNO
Admission as a non-degree student does not constitute admission to a degree program.
Visa and Immigration Status
Students maintaining F-1 status at another institution will not be issued a new Form I-20 by UNO.
Students requiring visa sponsorship from UNO must meet all financial documentation and immigration requirements prior to issuance of Form I-20 or Form DS-2019.
International Visiting Student Program (VSP)
The International Visiting Student Program (VSP) allows qualified students from partner institutions to enroll at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for a limited period of study without seeking a degree.
Participation in the VSP is based on formal agreements between UNO and the student’s home institution.
Eligibility
To be eligible for participation in the VSP, applicants must:

Be currently enrolled at a UNO partner institution

Be formally nominated by their home university

Meet all academic, English proficiency, and documentation requirements established by UNO and the home institution
Application and Immigration Requirements
VSP participants must complete all required application materials and submit supporting documentation as directed by UNO.
Students requiring visa sponsorship must meet all financial documentation and immigration requirements prior to issuance of Form I-20 or Form DS-2019.
Health Insurance
All international students enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha are required to maintain health insurance coverage for the duration of their enrollment.
International students will be automatically enrolled in the UNO Student Health Insurance Plan unless a waiver applies.
Waiver Eligibility
A waiver may be granted under the following conditions:

The student is sponsored by a home country government and has a current financial guarantee on file that includes approved health insurance coverage through the end of the term

The student is covered by a U.S.-based employer-sponsored health insurance plan that meets University coverage requirements
Students seeking a waiver must submit documentation for review and approval.
J-1 exchange students enrolled as visiting non-degree students must comply with insurance requirements established by the Education Abroad office.
Failure to maintain required health insurance coverage may result in administrative action.
Admission Decisions
Admission decisions are typically made within one week after all required application materials have been received.
Applicants will be notified of the admission decision using the email address provided on the application.
Admission is contingent upon receipt and verification of all final official documents.
Immigration Documents (Form I-20 and DS-2019)
Form I-20 is issued to students admitted in F-1 status after all admission, financial, and immigration documentation requirements have been satisfied.
Form DS-2019 is issued to students admitted in J-1 status after all required documentation has been received and approved.
Immigration documents are issued directly to the student using the email address provided on the application and will not be released to third parties.
Students admitted in F-1 status who enroll part-time at UNO while maintaining status at another U.S. institution will not be issued a new Form I-20.
Students are responsible for reviewing all information on the issued immigration document for accuracy and for maintaining lawful immigration status.
