CDIS 8550 PRE-EXTERNSHIP CLINIC PRACTICUM IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY (1 credit)
This course provides a supervised pre-externship experience in speech-language pathology, allowing students to apply academic knowledge in community-based clinical settings for 5-10 hours per week. Under ASHA-certified supervision, students develop foundational skills in assessment, intervention, documentation, and professional communication with diverse clients. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, ethical decision-making, and self-reflection to prepare for advanced externship placements. The course aligns with ASHA CAA and CFCC standards for clinical education, supporting student competence in service delivery, data collection, and collaboration within interprofessional teams.
Prerequisite(s): Graduate standing in the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program, successful completion of CDIS 8500. Permission from program faculty. Not open to non-degree graduate students.
