ENGL 2030 WRITING, POWER, AND AI (3 credits)
This course examines AI and its role in academic writing. Students learn how generative AI systems produce language and examine questions of originality and academic integrity in AI-assisted writing. They practice critical AI literacy by analyzing AI-generated writing for accuracy, bias, and rhetorical fit across genres, with particular attention to research-based argumentation. The course emphasizes responsible AI-assisted research: verifying claims, triangulating sources, and integrating evidence with appropriate academic citation. Students learn to protect their authorial agency by using AI to extend, not replace, their own thinking. By the end of the course, students will be able to make individual, informed decisions about when and how to use AI tools throughout their writing process.
