HIST 4340 U.S. CONSTITUTIONAL HISTORY SINCE 1860 (3 credits)
This course examine the increasingly important role played by competing interpretations of the United States constitution since the outbreak of he Civil War. This will include the emergence of the idea of a "living constitution," the extension of constitutional guarantees to the states, and examination of critical Supreme Court cases.
