PHIL 3210 SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY (3 credits)
Western social and political philosophy has been concerned primarily with a few basic issues, such as the relationship between state authority and individual autonomy, but a multitude of ancillary concerns have become focal points of scholarly activity, particularly in the last century, including populism, democracy, the presence of inhumanity in the world, genocide, the role of public intellectuals, identity, human rights and interventionism, and peace building.
Prerequisite(s): 3 credits in philosophy or junior or permission of instructor.
