SPAN 3590  SPANISH FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS II (3 credits)

This course is a continuation of 'Spanish for Healthcare Professionals' and expands students' abilities to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients in routine clinical interactions. In this course, students will build on foundational vocabulary, interviewing skills, and sociocultural knowledge acquired in SPAN 3570. Through guided practice, simulated clinical encounters, and engagement with authentic medical materials, students will develop greater confidence and fluency in conducting conversations about symptoms, daily routines, medications, and follow-up care. Emphasis is placed on strengthening communicative strategies, improving comprehension of patient narratives, and deepening understanding of cultural perspectives toward health and healthcare in the Spanish-speaking world.
