CRCJ 4570  CRIME DATA ANALYSIS (3 credits)

Crime analysis is a profession and process in which a set of techniques are used to analyze data valuable to police agencies and their communities. Crime analysis is playing an increasingly important role in policing by helping agencies better allocate their resources. This course offers a background for students interested in crime analysis including history, administration, theory, and application, primarily at the local level. Since a crime analyst typically functions as a researcher in a law enforcement agency, students will learn how theories of criminology and policing are applied in crime analysis. This course outlines how crime analysis enhances effectiveness of policing efforts, highlighting data analysis techniques and their role in the crime reduction and prevention process.

Prerequisite(s): CRCJ 1010, ENGL 1150, and 45 credit hours; or permission.
